The Secretariat of the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIB&RC) has announced a substantial improvement to India’s pesticide registration process. In a public notification posted today, the directorate acknowledged the launch of a new module within the Comprehensive Registration of Pesticide (CROP) Portal intended to speed up safety approvals.
The new digital module is intended to allow for parallel examination of Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) proformas. Previously, these technical documents were generally reviewed sequentially; however, the FSSAI’s Scientific Panel on Pesticide Residue (SPPR) will now have simultaneous access to them.
FSSAI and CIB&RC team up for a Simultaneous MRL Scrutiny streamlined process, which not only reduces delays but also enhances efficiency by enabling simultaneous review and decision-making. It ensures faster approvals, supports the timely introduction of pesticides, and helps the industry meet regulatory compliance without unnecessary bottlenecks, ultimately benefiting both the regulatory bodies and the agricultural sector.
Requirements for Stakeholders
All applicants have been instructed by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare to make sure their initial submissions are complete. Important requirements for the CROP portal currently include:
- MRL Proforma: Complete data must be uploaded at the time of application submission.
- Technical Documentation: Relevant documents, including the Method of Analysis and Chromatograms, must be included.
To ensure adherence to the new parallel review procedure, pesticide industry associations have been asked to raise awareness among their members.
