Danish EPA pesticide guidance 2026

Danish EPA Issues Updated Guidance on Pesticide and Authorization

An amendment to the guidelines pertaining to Regulation No. 951 of June 26, 2025 has been published by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This most recent version of the Danish EPA Pesticide Guidance 2026, which was released on January 12, 2026, is an essential guide for the acquisition, distribution, and expert use of pesticides and biocides in Denmark.

The amended guidance replaces the prior version issued in December 2020, and it aligns regulatory interpretations with legislative revisions enacted in 2025.

Key Changes and Updates

The 2026 advice includes various administrative and substantive changes aimed at modernizing the authorization process and raising professional standards.

1. New Requirements for Biocides

A key contribution involves biocide-containing pesticides. The amendment shows new criteria for professional pest control services performed on behalf of third parties. This ensures that commercial pest control operators follow higher safety and competency standards.

2. Streamlined Pesticide Authorizations

The EPA has clarified the criteria for professional competence, particularly:

  • Substituted Competencies: The guidance now specifies which specific professional experiences and prior qualifications the EPA will accept as a substitute for standard training and follow-up courses.
  • Digital Integration: In accordance with the national digital infrastructure, all references to NemID have been formally changed to MitID.
  • Updated Resources: All external links and references have been updated to ensure that users may access the most recent regulatory documents.

3. Dealer and Certification Standards

The EPA clarified the structural requirements for pesticide distributors –

  • CVR vs. P Numbers: Each CVR number (company registration) must be assigned to authorized and trained staff.
  • New Training Modules: Details about the introduction of the digital gas test and e-learning courses for dealer and dye certification have been added.

Background and Purpose: Danish EPA Pesticide Guidance 2026

The guidelines governing the use of plant protection products in Denmark date back to 1991. The present system was considerably modified in 2016 to comply with the EU system Directive on Sustainable Pesticide Use (2009/128/EC).

This regulation requires that professional-grade pesticides be marketed only to individuals with a valid, revocable certificate. This “authorization scheme” assures that only certified personnel handle potentially dangerous substances, thereby preserving public health and the environment.

Stay Compliant

The EPA has said that this advice would be regularly updated to reflect any future legislative changes or to clarify provisions as appropriate. Professionals are asked to evaluate the updated digital modules to ensure their authorizations are still valid under the 2026 criteria.
