The Pest Control Products Board (PCPB) has issued an emergency license permitting the use of Abamectin based pest control products for the management of Persea mites in avocados in an effort to assist avocado growers and protect crop health.
At the Board of Management’s 195th meeting on September 30, 2026, the decision was finalized. Members remarked that Abamectin was effective against Persea mites. A prior circular dated December 2024 is revised in this update, which offers avocado growers under pest pressure a particular exception.
Abamectin Emergency License Kenya Avocado Persea Mites : Key Highlights of the Emergency Authorization:
- Scope and Duration: Until a sufficient number of alternative pest management agents are formally registered to control Persea mites in avocados, the emergency authorization will continue in effect.
- Environmental Protection: It is the legal duty of local agents and registrants to make sure that suitable mitigation measures are put in place to safeguard bees and other pollinators during application.
Avocado producers and local agents are advised to coordinate closely with regulatory guidelines to ensure effective pest management while strictly adhering to pollinator safety protocols.
