New Version of DROPLET to Assess Concentrations at Drinking Water

Introducing the New Version of DROPLET to Assess Concentrations at Drinking Water Extraction Points in the Netherlands!

This is exciting news for the assessment world!

Software tool DROPLET has been developed by the Dutch Board for the Authorisation of Plant Protection Products and Biocides (Ctgb) to assess whether pesticides in Dutch surface water abstraction points for drinking water production may exceed the 0.1 μg/L standard.

Outline

DROPLET is a pre-registration model revolutionizing substance assessment. It is specifically designed for a new active substance. DROPLET streamlines evaluations for the first product and subsequent assessments within the initial 3-year period of authorization in the Netherlands. After this period, assessments shift to data monitoring.

DROPLET’s innovative approach ensures efficient and reliable evaluations, guaranteeing compliance.

About new version

The eagerly awaited new version of DROPLET is here, it is packed with technical adjustments to accommodate the latest FOCUS surface water models, including the upgraded FOCUS SWASH 5.3. This enhancement ensures seamless integration of model results from FOCUS into DROPLET’s calculations.

In the freshly released DROPLET version 1.3.2, all necessary things have been implemented and no changes have been made to calculations performed by DROPLET.

Furthermore, an extensive impact analysis was conducted due to the content changes in the new FOCUS surface water models. The analysis clearly confirmed that adopting the new DROPLET version has no effect on the assessment conclusion regarding the Netherlands’ drinking water criterion.

A need for immediate action arises as the current DROPLET version (1.2) exclusively functions on the unsupported Windows 7 operating system. To ensure a smooth transition, ongoing applications for plant protection product authorizations will be reassessed by the Ctgb using the new DROPLET version (1.3.2).
