Seed suppliers take note! Proper labelling is crucial for seeds treated with plant protection products (PPP). This ensures transparency and safety for both sellers and users.
The government of the Republic of Lithuania has released an important update for seed suppliers.
Here are a few key points to consider:
• Only Registered PPP: Seeds need to be treated with PPP that is registered inside the EU. It is forbidden to supply seeds treated with unlicensed products.
• Labelling Responsibility: It is the seed supplier’s responsibility to make that treated seeds abide by EU laws, particularly Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009.
• Labelling Requirements: The seed label or accompanying documents must clearly
State:
o Name of the plant protection product used for treatment.
o Name(s) of the active ingredient(s) in the PPP.
o Safety precautions for using the treated seeds.
o Potential risks to human and animal health associated with the treatment.
• Reliable Sources: It is not permitted to sell seeds that have been treated with PPP that is not registered, or different from registered goods.
Important points to be remember:
• To obtain a list of PPPs that have been registered, always check the State Crop Production Service’s VATIS information system.
• Adhere closely to the distribution, storage, and use policies specified for PPPs that have been registered.
• Before using treated seeds, be sure you have read and comprehended all instructions.
By following these regulations, ‘seed suppliers’ can ensure the safe and responsible use of treated seeds, protecting both consumers and the environment.
