The Health and Safety Executive or HSE announced updated regulation for data requirements  on biocidal products. These changes, laid out in the Biocidal Products.

‘Regulations 2024’ will come into effect on ‘April 6, 2024’, subject to parliamentary approval.

The new regulations update ‘Annexes II and III’ of the GB Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR). These annexes outline the data needed for applications concerning active substances and biocidal products.

A key aspect of the update is the emphasis on alternative testing methods over animal testing. This aligns with advancements in science and technology that provide reliable results without the use of animals.

The new requirements will only apply to applications submitted after ‘October 6, 2025’, allowing ample time for businesses to adjust. The HSE will publish further guidance on the website in the near future.

The announcement acknowledges the valuable contributions from participants in the public consultation held between January 17 and March 14, 2023. The feedbacks have received and closed. Those feedback will use to improve the final regulations.
