Open public consultation

Harmonized Classification and Labelling Consultations Open for Public Comment within the European Union

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has initiated a crucial step in ensuring the safety of chemical substances within the European Union. The agency has invited concerned parties to participate in the consultation process for harmonized classification and labelling (CLH) of various hazardous substances. The hazardous classes currently open for public comment have been indicated for substances used as –

  • Pesticide additive
  • Cosmetics
  • Personal care products
  • Laundry detergents, and air fresheners
  • PVC heat stabilizers, antifreeze & corrosion inhibitors in cooling fluids
  • Flavour or aroma ingredient in teas, meats, cakes, perfumes, cosmetics, flavourings, and essential oils
  • Ubiquitous rubber antioxidant worldwide
  • Talc
  • Medical disinfectant and general purpose disinfectant

Notably, the assessments and conclusions for the hazard classes presented in the table have been proposed by the dossier submitter. The proposal outlines their evaluation of the potential risks of the substances and suggests harmonised classifications to be implemented. The decision to open a hazard class for public consultation is a vital part of the process, ensuring transparency and considering a wide range of perspectives.

The consultation period will extend for a duration of 60 days.

During this time, stakeholders, industry experts, environmentalists, and the general public can provide their valuable insights, scientific data, and expert opinions to support or challenge the proposed hazard classifications. This call for public input represents an opportunity for concerned individuals and organizations to actively contribute to the safety regulations surrounding chemicals and their potential impacts on human health and the environment.

ECHA encourages all interested parties to participate actively in the consultation process.
