In a proactive move to support Indian exporters and importers navigating the complexities of the global trade environment, the central government has operationalised a dedicated ‘Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk’. DGFT and the Department of Commerce announced the initiative on April 11th in order to address emerging trade issues including tariff changes, import surges, and export-related challenges.
Recognizing the changing trade climate and the implementation of various tariff and counter-tariff measures, the helpdesk will be a valuable resource for stakeholders facing new export possibilities or increased import pressures.
The DGFT created the “Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk” as a primary point of contact for the Export-Import (EXIM) community in order to efficiently handle these changes.
In particular, the helpdesk will investigate a broad variety of concerns, such as:
• Import and export difficulties
• Import dumping or surges
• EXIM clearance
• Logistics or supply chain difficulties
• Banking or financial concerns
• Regulatory or compliance Issues
• Other pertinent issues and recommendations
The DGFT will also coordinate with other relevant government agencies to seek assistance and give solutions.
