Harmonized Poison Centre Notifications

Harmonized Poison Centre Notifications Mandatory from 2025

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has issued an important notice to makers and importers of hazardous mixtures in the European Union. Beginning January 1, 2025, all poison centre notices must use the harmonised format defined in Annex VIII of the Classification, Labelling, and Packaging (CLP) Regulations.

This change signals the end of a transition phase in which corporations may continue to use non-harmonized national rules for poison centre alerts. However, after the deadline, any notices that do not comply the harmonised format would be considered non-compliant with the CLP Regulation.

To maintain market access for their hazardous mixtures, enterprises must submit new notifications that comply with Annex VIII criteria and include a unique formula identifier (UFI) on the product label. ECHA suggests using its Submission Portal to streamline the process of preparing and submitting harmonised notifications.
