4. Notice of suspension – certain dimethoate products and labels
This section of the Gazette announces the suspension of certain dimethoate products and labels. This is due to concerns about the safety of these products. Farmers and other users of dimethoate products should check this section to see if their products are affected by the suspension. The major reason for suspension is the APVMA has had regard to reported exceedances of the omethoate Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) on avocados and mangos.
- The APVMA’s investigations and assessments concluded that the MRL exceedances result from use of dimethoate as a post-harvest dip according to the directions on the approved label and subsequent degradation or metabolism of dimethoate to omethoate.
- The APVMA has assessed the potential dietary exposure resulting from the detected omethoate residues on mangos and avocados and has concluded that the level of omethoate present on the tested produce exceeds the combined dimethoate/omethoate Acute Reference Dose (ARfD) for those commodities.
- The APVMA is not satisfied that the instructions entered in the relevant APVMA file for the label are adequate as to how the product should be used.
5. Licensing of veterinary chemical manufacturers
This section of the Gazette lists all licensed veterinary chemical manufacturers. This information is important for veterinarians and other users of veterinary chemicals to ensure that they are purchasing products from reputable manufacturers.
6. Notice of cancellation at the request of the holder
This section of the Gazette announces the cancellation of certain agricultural and veterinary chemical products at the request of the holder. This means that these products are no longer approved for use and should not be used.
